Star Struck

Star struck R. Bell/ Rathor
Slanted stars shine in a crooked sky
While the clouds roll through my head
Can't find my way home, but I'm gonna try
It's time I was in bed September winds trying to get in
And those stars won't let me be
I hum a tune for the dizzy moon
Who decides to follow me
And I sing...
Na na na na hey yeah Na na na na hey yeah
Bathing in the light it brings
I hope that he's listening
Na na na na hey yeah Na na na na hey yeah
I'm falling fast and picking up speed SOLO (verse and chorus) Some time has gone, and we're going strong
The stars now in our eyes
Don't want to sleep cause I've fallen deep
And the sun may never rise
So it goes...
Na na na na hey yeah Na na na na hey yeah
Bathing in the light it brings
I hope that he's listening
Na na na na hey yeah Na na na na hey yeah
Don't think that I can slow it down
Or if I want to try
Feet firmly in the gutter
While my hands stretch towards the sky
Years like hours, planted and flowered
The stars now fixed in place
But I'm swept away to that fateful day
Every time I see his face
And I sang...
Na na na na hey yeah Na na na na hey yeah
Bathing in the light it brings
I hope that he's listening
Na na na na hey yeah Na na na na hey yeah
Love what I have and have all that I need

Strange New Weakness

Strange New Weakness D. Bell
Can you make it all better? Can you make it go away?
I’m afraid of being lonely. I’m afraid you might not stay
I could make it by being honest. I could make it by being true.
But instead I’d rather lie here and make it with you
My strange new weakness you see to believe, but I can’t bear to open my eyes
My strange new weakness I only can feel my way with you into the night
My strange new weakness, has got me so paralyzed
Can you do me a favor, no matter what the cost
I’m not used to going solo. I ain’t used to being lost
I could make it by being open. Tell you things you never knew.
But instead I’d rather lie here and make it with you
I’m a bird on a wire, wings are spread and I’m ready to soar
But I’ve been chained by desire, hell and back is my only reward
Can you tell me a story. Make it short and make it sweet.
I could use a happy ending, instead of agony’s defeat
I’d give in to some sob story. I’d give in to bitter truth
But tonight I stay and lie here, giving in to you.

You Never Bet The Devil

NEVER BET THE DEVIL D. Bell
Intro:
Am Am
Let me tell you my story, ‘cause my conscious demands.
Dm E
I once held the world in the palm of my hands
Am F
Well now my heart is just an ember, once tried and once true.
Dm E
I’m gonna teach you my lesson of what not to do
Am F Dm
You never bet the devil . You never bet the devil. You never bet the devil.
E Am
You never bet him your head, you just invite him to bed .
Dm E
And let him does what he wants, Instead of does what he says
Am
You bet the devil your head
F Dm
And you’ll begin to feel, feel, feel the tables turn
E Am
while you burn, the tables turn.
Am F Dm
You never bet the devil . You never bet the devil. You never bet the devil.
E Am
You never bet him your heart, or you’ll be doomed from the start
Dm E
You let him do what he please, instead of does what he needs
Am
You bet the devil your heart
F Dm E
And you’ll think you’re so smart smart, smart,
you’ll watch and learn, as you burn, you’ll watch and learn
There’s a place in hell that I’ve been and do know well,
where the angels play for the wrong team
And I know a few devils, still above ground level,
who ‘ll rip you apart at the seams.
There’s a place in hell that I’ve been and know too well,
where the angels are on the wrong team
And I know a few devils, still above ground level,
Who‘ll light you on fire in your dreams.
You never bet him your soul, ‘cause it’s for you the bell tolls
You let him think he’s the one , while you polish his gun
You bet the devil your soul
And you will start the pyre, pyre, pyre for you to burn,
Fueled by desire, desire for lovers spurned
And know that it’s the liar, liar, liar that gets his turn,
‘cause he’s a man of no concern
While I conspire with the devil, giving him you in return

Complaints Fall on Deaf Ears
Winter yields to springtime Summer's snuffed out by the fall
If it weren't for my bad luck I'd have no luck at all
But I can't complain The crops died from the frost But I can't complain All that marijuana lost Compounding blues with more bad news, this’ll surely drive up cost But I can't complain
Father never spared the rod Old man's touched in the head
I got my education Back behind the old woodshed
But I can't complain I must have struck a nerve So I can't complain Whupass is what he served Equal parts sin and White Lightnin' gave me what I deserved But I can't complain
The gully washer's taken my top soil Shoulder's been dislocated from my shotguns recoil
To cover debts, I upped my bets, straight shut out by the royal
I can't complain can't complain can't complain
Twisters relocate my home Last wife lit out with my brother
Been out of work these last five years Moved back in with my mother
But I can't complain Well, it's just another day So I can't complain Who's listening anyway Losing my hair and what's left there's rapidly turning gray But I can't complain I can't complain I can't complain

Sing
I can sing to you sweetly, I can sing to you strong
I could sing the wee small hours of morning into gold rushing dawn
I can sing for my supper, even the finest of beers
I could sing the cold harsh of winter into icicle tears
But I can’t sing for your love, you won’t share it with me
I’m only a noise in the air, like the leaves through the trees
I can’t sing for your love, even though your heart beats in time
I’m only a rhythm in your mind you’re tapping out patiently in line
I can sing to you willful, I can sing with restrain
I can sing the stillness of cold coffee in a tired Café
I can sing for the future and the promises to come
I can sing for all that’s holy at the risk of sounding dumb
But I can’t sing for your love, you won’t share it with me
I’m only a noise in the air, like the leaves through the trees
I can’t sing for your love, even though your heart beats in time
I’m only a rhythm in your mind you’re tapping out patiently in line
I can sing for all that’s right, I fight for those who have no choice
But you coming around again is when I find I have no voice
I can’t sing for your love, you won’t share it with me
I’m only a noise in the air, like the leaves through the trees
I can’t sing for your love, even though your heart beats in time
I’m only a rhythm in your mind you’re tapping out patie ntly in line
I can sing to you sweetly

Don't Call It Love

Don’t Call it Love
A handsome stranger without wedding ring, moving in across from her building
Her heartbeat ran amok, but wouldn’t dare to call it luck
Struck up a conversation now and then, received an offer from the gentleman
She agreed to one date, but wouldn’t dare to call it fate
She called it passion, adoration, yearning or infatuation, even lust
Could be enchantment or devotion, him toying with her emotions or her trust
She caught him staring with a sheepish smile. He sent her letters full of prose and style
She was most proud of, but wouldn’t dare to call it love
She says it’s adulation, respect and appreciation, fondness for her form
Maybe it’s attachment, drive to breed or overpowering need for one to keep him warm
Many years later she remembers well
She never meant to fall under his spell
Resisted oh so long,
and she’s so glad that she was wrong
She called it crushing ardor, delight spreading with a quickness, sickness in the head
A bit of weakness, zeal, elaborate ruse, any excuse to get her into bed
Perhaps it’s all of the above, but wouldn’t that be love?
Couldn’t that be love?

Haunted
Watching the sunrise through the bottom of a glass
Patiently waiting for the sickness to pass
I'm haunted by the memory of you
Spend my free time walking old stomping ground
Emotion overtakes me here, I feel like I've drowned
Not one for sentiment, but lately I've found
I'm haunted by the memory of you
Never been a man of faith, but I've been known to be wrong
'Cause I need to believe that you're not gone That you’re not gone
For our time together, I was truly blessed
I know will meet again someday, though I must confess
Resisting temptation to speed the process
I'm haunted by the memory of you
Never been a man of faith, but I've been known to be wrong
'Cause I need to believe that you're not gone
So raise your glasses high while I make a toast
Never take for granted what you cherish the most
I'm just a visitor, my body the host
I'm haunted by the memory of you
I'm haunted by the memory of you (3*)
